The 5G Hackathon, AI, and Data Privacy Challenges
As an environmental health non-profit organization, we focus primarily on the science-based health hazards associated with exposure to radiofrequency (RF) microwave radiation ("wireless radiation"), specifically the radiation emitted by powerful "small cell" antennas being installed mere feet from homes and schools across the country.
But health is not the only issue when it comes to 5G.
5G wireless infrastructure is inherently more susceptible to hacking which could put millions of peoples' sensitive information and personal data in the hands of malicious actors.
"The adoption of emerging technologies like 5G will fuel the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) which are often built with basic security controls, creating a larger attack surface. At the same time, reliance on data means that data breaches can cause greater damage..."
